If so, Copper Shores Community Health Foundation invites you to apply for the position of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (RN or NP) in Houghton, Michigan or the surrounding area. This is a field position that travels within Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga counties as needed, and requires reliable transportation.
In this on-call, part-time role, you will provide trauma-informed, patient-centered care to individuals who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. Your expertise and empathy will be instrumental in guiding survivors through a critical time with dignity and respect.
WHAT WE OFFER.
- Forensic medical exams are paid based on the type of exam: $300 for a full exam, $150 for a partial exam, and $50 per consultation.
- $2 per hour for on-call time.
- $25 per hour paid training, is done online and at your own pace. (Adult examiner training is 41 hours of online training and Pediatric examiner training is 43 hours of online training.
- $25 per hour paid court time if needed. This includes paid prep time and time at court if a case goes to trial.
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
You will play a vital role in our community by:
- Providing compassionate, client-centered care during medical forensic examinations in hospital settings.
- Educating clients about consent, their options, and potential next steps in the legal process.
- Conducting thorough examinations and evidence collection in alignment with the client’s wishes.
- Offering support for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy prevention, as well as follow-up care.
- Supporting clients in making decisions about reporting and navigating available resources.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), to ensure holistic care and outcomes.
- Maintaining meticulous records to ensure confidentiality and compliance with all standards.
- Participate in court proceedings, trials, and the legal process, as needed.
- Participating in training, continuing education, and community outreach to remain at the forefront of forensic nursing.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- RN or Nurse Practitioner credentials with at least two years of nursing experience.
- A background in emergency medicine, women’s health, or psychiatric medicine is recommended.
- A compassionate, patient-first approach with a commitment to preserving autonomy and dignity.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Ability to work remotely and in an on-call part-time capacity.
- Reliable insured transportation and a valid driver’s license is required to meet travel requirements. Milage is reimbursed.
