As a Community Support Specialist, you will work directly with families across Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga, and Ontonagon Counties providing valuable support to help families thrive, offering guidance in areas such as parenting, home management, and life skills.
WHAT WE OFFER.
- $17.50 – $21.50 per hour stating pay based on experience.

- Full-time, 40-hour per week position with flexible work schedule. Some weekend and evening hours are required.
WHAT YOU WILL DO.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families and provide personalized support such as role modeling, instruction, support, advocacy, and supervision.
- Assist families with challenges like childcare, parenting, homelessness and/or home management, nutrition, and employment issues.
- Conduct face-to-face interviews with families to establish the need to for services and develop a service plan.
- Visit clients’ homes to ensure safety and offer life management skills.
- Develop and implement service plans tailored to family needs.
- Monitor family dynamics and provide appropriate interventions when needed such as calling police, informing referral source, and referring to Protective Services, as necessary and within legal parameters.
- Collaborate with community partners, referral sources, and local agencies.
- Provide transportation to clients when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records and reports as required under MDHHS contract requirements; attend training sessions.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.
- A positive, flexible approach and the ability to work independently.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field such as Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Development and Family Studies, Counseling, Child and Family Services, or Criminal Justice.
- Experience or knowledge in crisis intervention, training, and program development recommended.
- Strong communication, organizational, and crisis intervention skills.
- A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and necessary vehicle insurance is required.
- Experience working with families is preferred, but not required.
